ICD10 Best Practices In Medisoft
If you are a Medisoft user. The following are steps you can take to make the transition to ICD-10 easier. Caution, different versions of electronic claims program may have different options.
If you are using version 5.0 of InterfaceEDI
1) In Medisoft, make sure all insurance carriers are using ICD-10 as their Diagnosis Code Set with the ICD-10 Effective date to 10/1/2015. These settings can be found on the Options and Codes tab in the Insurance Carrier setup window. Instructions on how to change the Diagnosis Code set for more than one insurance carrier can be found here Setting ICD Version. Be sure to set a new default including these settings to ensure new carriers are set to ICD10. If a payer has a different ICD-10 Effective date, simply change the date. InterfaceEDI 5.0 now uses this date to determine which dates of service need ICD-9 and ICD-10.
2) Create new codes for ICD-10 codes, in each new code, place the ICD-10 code in the Code Field, the ICD-10 Description in the Description field, place the equivalent ICD-9 and description in the ICD-9 fields, click the Copy button next to the ICD-10 code. Then Save.
3) Start using the new codes. when the deadline comes, switch all carriers to ICD-10. In the cases where the carrier is not ready to receive ICD-10 codes, change the Diagnosis Code Set to ICD-9.
Other Notes:
When setting up a new Diagnosis Code, The value in the Code field is version neutral. It can be either ICD-9 or ICD-10. InterfaceEDI assumes the code is ICD-9 and identifies it as such in the 837 claim file. So it is important to explicitly choose which Diagnosis Code Set to use in the insurance carrier setup in Medisoft.
Step 2 can be partially accomplished by using The ICD-10 Mapping tool in Medisoft. Instructions on how to use it can be found here Creating ICD-10 Mappings. For a more thorough option for importing and mapping ICD-10 codes,

Instructions on how to change the Diagnosis Code set for more than one insurance carrier can be found here Setting ICD Version. You will change them to ICD-10 on or after the day the become effective.
2) If you are using InterfaceEDI version 4 and Medisoft, do not rely on the ICD-10 Effective Date. Leave it Blank. And do not set the Diagnosis Code Set to Code (more information is found below).
3) Create new codes for ICD-10 codes, in each new code, place the ICD-10 code in the Code Field, the ICD-10 Description in the Description field, place the equivalent ICD-9 and description in the ICD-9 fields, click the Copy button next to the ICD-10 code. Then Save.
