Diagnosis Showing in Red

From Medisoft Help:
"A red background in a Diagnosis Code field indicates that the diagnosis code does not have a value in the code set (ICD-9 or ICD-10) of the primary insurance carrier."

Problem:

A diagnosis code is highlighted in red in transaction entry OR You receive a "Claim XXXX has no diagnosis pointers" error.

Solution:

1. Refer to the Set ICD Version guide to ensure your ICD version is configured properly. Note that you will need to restart Medisoft to clear the red highlight.

If that does not resolve the problem:

2. Right click on the diagnosis code in transaction entry and select "edit diagnosis"

3. The edit screen should display all 3 codes associated with that diagnosis.

Code

ICD9

ICD10

the internal code you use to find the diagnosis in your system

the diagnosis code being sent to carriers marked to receive ICD9 codes

(or on claims with dates of service before the the carriers ICD10 effective date)

the diagnosis code being sent to carriers marked to receive ICD10 codes

4. If the code field for ICD10 is blank and the carrier in the patient's case is set to receiver ICD10 codes, you will need to find and enter the new ICD10 code instead of the current code.

OR

If the code field for ICD9 is blank and the carrier in the patient's case is set to receiver ICD9 codes (or the claim's date of service is prior to the carriers ICD10 effective date), you will need to find and enter the ICD9 information into the current code.
